PROSPECTS:

It is estimated that Pennington County
had a minimum production through 1959
of about 128,000 ounces of gold. Gold
was found in 1875 in the gravels of
Spring Creek, Palmer Gulch, Castle
Creek, and Rapid Creek.

The Rapid Creek in this area is perhaps
the most gold rich area in Black Hills,
and in fact the area is heavily staked.
You could have great access to the
creek almost anywhere since the river
runs along the Rockford Rd.

As you may notice on the photos, the
creek travels and continuously bends
through the entire 80 acres claim. Within
the properties, you find numerous
sandy or gravel bars which are excellent
mining areas. The inner curve zones are
the excellent area where new gold
deposits settle (due to heavier weight of
gold). Within the property, you also find
the generous water falls with the deep
pool, which adds more value to this claim.

Even though this claim is excellent for
serious miners, it is a very nice quiet,
peaceful and secluded area where one
could just relax and enjoy surrounding
nature, or beginners could get started in
a mining environment that is not too
difficult. Definitely it is a good place
where you could take your family or love
one with. Your family could enjoy panning
all day.

Keep in mind that it is generally very hard
to reserve a public or private
campsite in Custer State Park area
during busy seasons, such as Memorial
weekend or 4th July weekend unless you
book several months in advance.
Please reserve your campsite or hotel
room early in advance. We recommend
Flinstones campground in Custer with
good facility. It seems like sites are
always available with short notice. In
addition, it is located the edge of Custer
town, and everything you need (grocery,
hardware, gas stations, etc,.) within
several blocks.
